Golley’s week that was #19

Our regular round-up of what’s been going on in the Golley Slater Cardiff office over the last seven days.

#1 Our Advertising MD Mike Leeson joined BBC Radio Wales to discuss a controversial new TV advert

Mike was invited to speak on Jason Mohammad’s breakfast show to give his opinion on the backlash a fast food chain has received since the launch of a new TV campaign. The advert, in which a boy finds out he and his late father shared a love of the same item from the McDonalds’ menu, has attracted criticism for being insensitive and has since been pulled off air.

You don’t have to be a creative or a big intellect to figure out that there are territories that you just instinctively don’t go into,” said Mike, who went on to explain “these days, we can’t underestimate how intelligent consumers are.” To listen again to Mike’s comments click here and scroll to 00:51, and to watch the full advert in question, click here.

#2 We launched our “People Don’t Have a Best Before Date” campaign for The Welsh Government

Our latest campaign for the Welsh Government aims to encourage Welsh businesses to recognise the importance of older workers; did you know one third of Wales’s workforce is currently aged over 50? The campaign features real life-workers from a cross – section of exemplar businesses including Iceland, Welsh Water and Harding Evans, and is supported by BITC Cymru, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, and the Welsh Government.

#3 Our PR campaigns for Dusty Knuckle Pizza & Public Health Wales were shortlisted for two PRCA Dare awards

We were pleased to find out that our Water Keeps You Well hydration campaign for Public Health Wales was shortlisted in the public sector category of the PRCA Dare Awards; and our work with Dusty Knuckle Pizza to get the word out about their move to a permanent premises was shortlisted in the budget campaign category. The awards are independently judged by a panel of industry experts and insiders, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the announcement and awards dinner on the 15th June!

#4 We held a B2B blogging workshop for our client, Hugh James

Four members of our team visited Hugh James’ offices to meet with staff from the construction and commercial property teams to deliver a workshop on blogging for a B2B audience. The workshop covered how best to use video and images, how to optimise your content for mobile browsing, and how to best encourage your audience to share and engage with you.
