Our regular round-up of what’s been going on in the Golley Slater Cardiff office over the last seven days.

#1 We learned the golden rules of tweeting in Welsh 

A few of our team headed to Pinewood Studios to attend the ‘Tweeting in Welsh’ workshop led by Dr Llion Jones from Bangor University.  Dr. Jones passed on his nuggets of wisdom on the golden rules of tweeting in Welsh, providing top tips on how to write slick and snappy Welsh tweets – quashing the myth that the oldest language in Britain is unsuitable for social media.

#2 Christmas adverts were the office hot-topic

It’s always the case; you watch a new film or TV series and as soon as you get into work the next day, it’s the talk of the entire office. Now, thanks to the big budgets, cinematic productions and weeks of build up, retailers’ Christmas adverts are no different. “What’s your favourite?”, “That one didn’t give me a magical feeling”, “That’s the worst!” were just some of the reactions heard around the office from the Golley gang. All of this chatter gave us the inspiration for our ‘Golley’s Christmas ad review’ which you can read in full here.

#3 We talked digital transformation over breakfast at the CIPR ‘Rise & Shine’

At this month’s CIPR breakfast event, we looked at the role that communication professionals play when helping brands transform through digital. We heard from Victoria Ford, who shared her experience of supporting digital change at the DVLA. Our main take away? Digital change comes from going beyond technology and focusing on people and behaviours first and foremost.

#4 Our PR team secured some great coverage

It’s been a busy week for our PR team working on client The Seren Network, a Welsh Government university access project. As well as preparing for Seren’s upcoming December conference: Seren 2017: Above and Beyondthe team spotted and capitalised on a strong media relations opportunity off the back of new figures from UCAS, which show a 6% increase in the number of Welsh pupils applying to Oxbridge and top medical courses. The story was the lead education story in the Western Mail, offering an opportunity to demonstrate how initiatives like the Seren Network are beginning to bear fruit in Wales.

We also helped Mike Lawley, chairman of Cooke & Arkwright, to share his views about the impact and legacy of the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation. The piece takes a look back at what has happened in the last 15 years of regeneration in the capital, since the CBDC was set up. In times that Mike describes as “busy and challenging but often exhilarating”, he details the impact of the old industries leaving to make way for the new, and ultimately, the significant part that the corporation played in turning fortunes around. #5 We helped launch St Joseph’s Hospital’s new clinic

Thursday night we helped our client, St Joseph’s Hospital, launch “Only You” – it’s new aesthetic clinic. Hosted at the Celtic Manor’s Forum Spa, the event was an opportunity to enjoy plenty of bubbles and canapes, live Botox demonstrations and an talk from leading plastic surgeon Mr Anthony Macquillian.
